July 24, 1985: Reds (50-44) at Mets (64-30)

Left fielder George Foster smashed 2 homeruns and had 7 RBI as the New York Mets destroyed the Cincinnati Reds by a score of 18 to 5 at SHEA STADIUM.

Foster provided much of the offense. He popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 1st inning, slapped a base-hit scoring two baserunners in the 2nd inning, lined a one-base hit in the 6th inning, rifled a three-run blast in the 6th inning and delivered a single in the 8th inning. New York kept the scorekeepers busy in the 1st inning with 4 runs on 4 hits and the 6th inning which saw them plate 8 runs on 8 hits. New York had 24 hits for the game and Cincinnati had 10.

The winning pitcher was Ron Darling(12-8) who allowed 3 runs in 7 innings. Jay Tibbs(7-10) absorbed the loss. He was touched for 7 hits and 2 walks in 2 innings.
