Chicago found themselves trailing quickly as the Baltimore bats came through in the first inning plating 3 runs on 4 base hits. Alan Wiggins led off and he laced a base-hit. Wiggins got a good lead and stole second. Lee Lacy then slapped a one-base hit which scored a run. Cal Ripken followed next and he tripled driving in another run. Murray stepped into the box and lined a single scoring the final run of the inning. Chicago was out-hit by Baltimore, 9 hits to 4.
The winning pitcher was Ken Dixon(4-7) who allowed 5 runs in 7 innings. Don Aase earned his 11th save. Tom Seaver(11-9) was the losing pitcher.
