Houston was unable to recover after St. Louis went ahead in the top of the 5th inning plating one baserunner. St. Louis banged out 13 hits on the night.
Cox(7-9) allowed 1 run on the game. Joe Niekro(8-14) was charged with the loss. Bob Lillis was obviously impressed with the pitching of Cox, 'That guy made us look a little silly out there tonight. We just couldn't get to him at all - everything was working for him. I just hope that he got that kinda performance out of his system.'
