September 15, 1985: Cardinals (86-56) at Cubs (72-71)

Shortstop Ozzie Smith hit 2 doubles as the St. Louis Cardinals topped the Chicago Cubs by a score of 4 to 2 at WRIGLEY FIELD. 

St. Louis came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 9th inning with 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits. Smith got things going when he doubled. Cesar Cedeno stepped up to the plate and he tripled resulting in a run. Vince Coleman got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. Willie McGee came up and he hit a sacrifice fly scoring the final run of the inning. St. Louis banged out 8 hits on the afternoon. 

Ricky Horton(8-2) allowed 2 runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory. Jeff Lahti preserved the game for Horton, recording his his 24th save. The loss was charged to Rick Sutcliffe(17-8). He allowed 4 runs and 8 hits in 9 innings.
