October 6, 1985: Astros (80-82) at Padres (85-77)

21,839 fans were treated to a fine game at JACK MURPHY STADIUM as only one run separated the combatants at game's end. The San Diego Padres won by the slimmest of margins, 6 to 5.

Both teams had scored 5 runs after nine full innings. San Diego won the hard fought contest in the 12th inning. Jerry Royster hit a single. Two outs later Graig Nettles stepped in and he drew a walk. Kurt Bevacqua then banged out a single giving San Diego the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. A wild and woolly affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times.

The win went to Roy Lee Jackson(5-0) who allowed no runs in 3 innings. Jeff Heathcock(4-4) was charged with the loss in relief. He pitched 3 and 2/3 innings and surrendered 4 hits and 1 walk.
