April 8, 1985 Game 7: Blue Jays at Royals



The Royals look to get get back into the playoffs and the Blue Jays are hoping to knock the Tigers doen a rung both teams have powerful lineups and strong pitching.  Todays game will feature Dave Stieb and Bud Black starting for their teams.

The Blue Jays would open the scoring in the 2nd When Damaso Garcia would single home Garth Iorg with 2 outs.  This would be all the runs that the Blue Jays would be able to get off of Black as he scattered 7 through 8 innings, he also walked 2 and struck out 6.

The Royals didn't fair much better against Stieb as the Royals would score 2 in the 4th on a Steve Balboni 2-Run homer that would score George Brett and himself.  Stieb would give up 8 hits through 8 innings, walking none and striking out 8 for the Complete game. George Brett left the game in the 5th with an ankle sprain and is expected to miss the next 4 games.

Dan Quisenberry would close out the 9th for his 1st save.

Final score was a 2-1 Royals win.

Steve Balboni went 2-4 with a homer and 2 RBI
Dave Steib pitched 8 IP, giving up 2 runs on 8 hits, and striking out 8 for the Complete game.
