Neither one of these teams seems to figure much in the standings this however they may provide some annoyance among the upper tier teams in the American League. Neither team has a Superstar on their roster and seems to have more castoffs. But again they may be just annoying enough to change the standings in the A.L. West.
Todays game featured Mike Moore vs Chris Codiroli. Moore is solid pitcher and is coming off a disappointing season and he hopes that this year will be the best one yet. Codiroli is coming off a season in which he did not meet the clubs expectation and found him pitching out of the penn for half the season. He is also looking to rebound this year.
The A's opened the scoring in the top of the 1st when Dave Kingman lifted a 2-Run shot into the centerfield seats. But that would be all that Mike Moore would give up as he would cruise the rest of the game and only surrender 4 more hits.
Moore would end up with the complete game and would strikeout 6.
The Mariners would not fair much better against Codiroli. Phil Bradley would homer in the 1st that would make the score 2-1 A's. They would tack on 2 more do to an error by Alfredo Griffin and then Al Cowens would hit a 2-Run homer would make the score 3-2 Mariners. The A's Sloppy play and a Walk would lead to another mariner run in the 7th. Donnie Hill would boot a Spike Owen grounder, then Singles by Jack Perconte and Phil Bradley would load the bases. Codiroli would then Walk Alvin Davis to force in Spike Owen. That would end Codiroli's night. The Mariners would not score again and the game was over.
