May 11, 1985 Game 349: Twins (13-14) at Orioles (8-18)

The Orioles face off against the Twins at Memorial Stadium and the they are looking to Storm Davis to give them the boost they desperately need.  The Twins are looking to get back to the .500 mark and a win today puts them there.  They look to the big right arm Mike Smithson to lead the way.

The road would get tough for the Twins as the Orioles get to Smithson early.  The Orioles get a run in the first.  Ripken doubles and would then score on Murray's single to make it 1-0 Orioles.  They would add some more in the 2nd.  Sheets hits a 2 run homer to make it 3-0.  Wiggins would triple and would then score on an error by Gaetti to make it 4-0 Orioles.

Wiggins is at it again in the 4th,  when he doubles and would then score on Lacy's single to give the Orioles a 5-0 lead.  In the 7th with Dauer on 3rd and Ripken on 1st, Murray singles and Dauer scores to make it now 6-0 Orioles.

The Twins finally break through with a lone run in the 8th.  They have runners on 1st and 2nd, Salas hits a soft single into left and Gaetti runs through the stop sign at 3rd and beats Young's throw to the plate to make it a 6-1 game.  But the Orioles get that run back in the bottom of the inning and it is again Wiggins leading the charge.  He hits one on into the gap in left center and it hits off Puckett's glove and Wiggins is on 3rd.  Dempsey draws a walk and then Lacy bounces into a 6-4-3 double play but the aggressive Wiggins scores easily.

The Final Score 7-1 Orioles
