May 12, 1985 Game 369: Phillies (11-16) at Mets (17-9)

The Mets take on the Phillies at Shea Stadium and it would be Ron Darling vs John Denny.  The Mets are hoping to widen the gap between them and the 2nd place St. Louis Cardinals.

In the 1st Thomas singles and Schmidt walks.  Wilson rips a 2-out single and Thomas scores and it is 1-0 Phillies.  The Mets take the lead in the 2nd on Johnson's 1-out 2-run homer and it is a 2-1 Mets lead.

In the 3rd The Phillies take a 3-2 lead on Schmidt's 2-run homer.  They take a 4-2 lead in the 5th.  Schmidt doubles, Hayes singles and Schmidt scores.  The Mets get that run back in the bottom of the inning.  Santana doubles and would score on BAckman's 1-out single and it is 4-3 Phillies.

The Mets tie it at 4 in the 7th.  They have runners at 1st and 2nd, Heep singles scoring Santana.  The Phillies regain the lead in the 8th on Virgil's solo homer and it is 5-4 Phillies.  They get 2 more in the 9th.  With runners on 1st and 2nd Schmidt singles scoring Thomas and Schu heads to 3rd.  Hyes hits a SACFLY to right and Schu scores and it is a 7-4 Phillies lead.  The Mets Try to rally in the 9th.  With runners on 1st and 2nd, Carter singles scoring Christensen scores to make it 7-5 Phillies.
