May 17, 1985 Game 419: Red Sox (20-12) at Indians (12-21)

Jim Rice kept his team going today as he went 3-7 with a HR (15) and 5 RBI in a 12 inning affair.  The Red Sox looked to be in control of the game when they had a 5-2 lead going into the 6th.  But the Indians would tie it up and send this one into extras.

In the 11th the Red Sox looked poised to take the game on Rice's 3 run homer, giving the Red Sox an 8-5 lead.  Bob Stanley would implode by giving up a 2 run triple to Carter scoring 2 and a pinch hit single to Jerry Willard and the game is tied at 8.

Wade Boggs ripped a single to center and Butler plays it a bit aggressively and the ball rolled under his glove and Boggs advances to 3rd that allows a run to score and the Re Sox have the lead.  Steve Crawford pitches the 13th and shuts down the Indians and picks up his 2nd save.

Tony Armas also had a big day going 4-6 with 2 HR (12) and 3 RBI.  Brooke Jacoby led the Indians attack by going 3-5 with a HR (6) and 4 RBI

The Final Score 10-8 Red Sox
