June 13, 1985: Mets (36-21) at Phillies (21-36)

Gary Carter had 2 base hits and 3 RBI and Sid Fernandez dominated striking out 13 Philadelphia batters as the New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 8 to 4 at VETERANS STADIUM.

Fernandez(9-2) gave a fine effort for New York. He was reached for 7 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings and allowed 2 gopher balls. Philadelphia tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.

The loss was charged to Kevin Gross(1-6). He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 8 hits and 4 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.

Fernandez was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just strange - but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.'
