Steve Trout tossed a shutout as the Chicago Cubs defeated the San Francisco Giants 1 to 0 at CANDLESTICK PARK. 

Trout(11-7) had a solid outing for Chicago. He went 9 innings surrendering 6 hits and 6 walks lowering his ERA from 4.31 to 4.01. San Francisco had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. 

Atlee Hammaker(10-5) was the loser. 'I was a little good, a little bad and a little ugly.' said Trout, 'I was just giving us a chance to win.'
