July 30, 1985: Yankees (56-42) at Indians (37-65)

Joe Cowley struck out 11 batters as the New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians by the score of 4 to 2 at MUNICIPAL STADIUM. 

Cowley(7-8) was solid in the win. He didn't allow much, just 6 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings. Cleveland threatened in the 9th but New York was able to put down the rally. 

Dave Righetti preserved the game for Cowley, recording his his 22nd save. Neal Heaton(8-12) took the loss. He gave up 4 runs and 7 hits in 8 innings. 

Cowley, when asked about his 11 strikeout performance noted, 'The important thing is that we won, if I get 20 and we lose, what good does it do our team? But, on the other hand, since we won it feels great!'
