Rafael Santana had 3 base hits as the New York Mets outscored the Montreal Expos in 12 innings 2 to 1. 

The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings. New York ended up winning it in the 12th inning. Santana slapped a base-hit. Rick Aguilera came next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. After another out, Wally Backman then singled scoring the run. New York rapped out 10 hits for the night. 

The win went to Aguilera(4-9) who allowed no runs in 3 innings. Roger McDowell recorded the save, his 16th. Randy St. Claire(1-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. He pitched 3 innings giving up 3 hits and no walks.
