August 7, 1985: Pirates (43-63) at Phillies (44-62)

The Pittsburgh Pirates came in to the game in quite a tailspin, but they were able to snap their 6 game slide and defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 8 to 5 at Shibe Park.

John Candelaria(2-0) was dominant in relief. No one got on base in his 1 inning. Pittsburgh totaled 13 hits on the night. Candelaria got help from Cecilio Guante who earned his 19th save. John Denny(9-11) was hit with the loss.

'Ahhh, that victory was surely needed. Man alive, things were getting awfully grim,' noted Chuck Tanner. 'Now, we need to string a bunch of wins together and turn things around!'
