Center fielder Chet Lemon hit a homer and had 3 RBI at MUNICIPAL STADIUM as the Detroit Tigers beat the Cleveland Indians by the count of 5 to 3. 

Detroit scored 2 runs in the decisive 5th inning. The critical plate appearance was by Lemon who silenced the crowd when he laced a one-base hit bringing home two baserunners. Detroit had a total of 9 hits for the game. 

Dan Petry(13-8) went 8 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory. Willie Hernandez earned the save, his 27th. Ramon Romero(5-4) was the losing pitcher. He surrendered 4 runs and 6 hits in 4 and 1/3 innings.
