September 8, 1985: Mets (87-49) at Dodgers (82-55)

Keith Hernandez had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Dwight Gooden racked up an impressive total of 12 strikeouts as the amazing New York Mets defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers by the score of 4 to 1 at DODGER STADIUM.

Gooden(18-6) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the Los Angeles batters. He gave up just 4 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. New York had 9 hits for the afternoon.

Jerry Reuss(13-10) was the loser. 'Gooden just dominated us' losing pitcher Reuss said. 'Hopefully we can get to him the next time around'
