In a game for the baseball purist, Jose Rijo(16-7) and Danny Jackson(10-11) squared off in a tense pitching duel, Oakland Athletics finally emerged victorious over Kansas City Royals, 2 to 1. 

Oakland tallied 1 run in the bottom of the 5th inning. Kansas City had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. Jose Rijo(16-7) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and allowing 1 run. Rijo was helped out by Jay Howell who recorded his 23rd save. The losing pitcher was Danny Jackson(10-11). He gave up 4 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.
