Ron Darling(17-14) earned his pay with a solid performance for New York. He went 7 innings allowing 7 hits and no walks. Darling racked up 9 strikeouts. New York took care of Pittsburgh with no trouble in the bottom of the 9th.
Darling got help from Jesse Orosco who earned his 15th save. Rick Rhoden(11-16) was given the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 6 and 1/3 innings of work.
