The game was won by San Francisco with a run in the top of the 9th inning. Joel Youngblood ripped a single. Dan Gladden was next and he ripped a base-hit. One out later, Chris Brown dug into the batters box next, but he struck out. Jeff Leonard followed and he lined a single to load the bases. Dan Driessen came to the plate and reached on an error scoring the run. Los Angeles was set down quietly in the bottom of the 9th.
Frank Williams(3-2) went 2 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Mark Davis preserved the game for Williams, recording his his 19th save. Ken Howell(3-4) took the loss in relief. He was a hard-luck loser, pitching 1 and 2/3 innings and not allowing an earned run.
