September 3, 1985: Mets (85-47) at Padres (71-62)

In a game for the baseball purist, Eric Show(15-12) and Ron Darling(14-12) squared off in a tense pitching duel, San Diego Padres finally emerged victorious over New York Mets, 3 to 1.

New York surrendered all of the runs San Diego needed in the 3rd inning when they tallied 3 runs on 4 hits. The early run support proved sufficient for Show and San Diego. That was all the run support Show required. The pitchers took over after the 3rd inning as neither team was able to score again.

Show got relief help from Goose Gossage who gained credit for his 28th save. With this win, San Diego has a 71-62 record. They have been 5-5 lately. With the loss, the New York ballclub's record is 85-47.
