September 4, 1985: Mariners (68-66) at Yankees (76-57)

Center fielder Dave Henderson had 3 base hits and 2 RBI at YANKEE STADIUM where the Seattle Mariners beat the New York Yankees by the score of 5 to 3. 

New York never recovered after Seattle took the lead in the 2nd inning scoring one runner utilizing 2 base hits. New York threatened in the 9th but Seattle was able to put down the rally. 

The win was credited to Bill Swift(6-8) who went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs. Swift got relief help from Roy Thomas who gained credit for his 13th save. The losing pitcher was Ed Whitson(6-15). He got hammered, allowing 12 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.
