April 13, 1985 Game 39: Reds (1-1) at Mets (1-1)

It was a pack house at Shea Stadium today as the Mets would take on the Reds.  Sid Fernandez would make his 1st start of the year and Mario Soto would make his 2nd for the Reds.

The Reds would score in the top of the 2nd. A Oester double would score Esasky and it was 1-0 Reds.  The Mets would come right back in the bottom of the half. Soto seemed to struggle with his control and bases loaded walks to Backman and Wilson would score Foster and Johnson making the score 2-1 Mets.

The Reds would get 3 in the 5th due a Eric Davis 3 run bomb off of Fernandez to make the score 4-2 Reds.

Soto would settle down after the 2nd and would only allow 3 hits and 2 walks over the next 6.1 innings.  Franco would come into the game in the 9th and get Backman to hit into a 3-6-3 doubleplay to end the game and earn his first save.

The Final Score 4-2 Reds
