April 13, 1985 Game 40: Cardinals (1-1) at Pirates (2-0)

47,335 Pirate fans came out to watch their beloved team take on the Cardinals in a game that would feature two of the teams least known starters. Larry McWilliams for the Pirates and Kurt Kepshire for the Cardinals. These 2 would battle each other for 6 innings before they both succumbed to fatigue.

The Cardinals would take the early early lead as they would put a 3 spot on the board in the 1st.  Clark would hit a 2 run homer, then a Nieto single would score Coleman and the Cardinal were up quickly 3-0.

Kepshire would help himself out with a single off McWilliams in the 6th that would score Coleman and put the Cardinal up 4-0.  The Pirates would respond in the 6th, with the bases loaded Khalifa would single scoring Thompson.  They would send Kepshire to the showers. Dayley would take over and could not stop the Pirate offense and would surrender 2 runs.  Pinch hitter Almon would walk scoring Pena. Ray would single scoring Kemp and it is now 4-3 Cardinals.

THe Scoring would end there the Pirates would threaten in the 9th but Campbell was able to get Morrison to hit into a5-4-6 double play to end the game.
