April 17, 1985 Game 87: Orioles (1-5) at Indians (2-4)

I thought I was going to be able to get a nap in as the two worst teams in the American duked it out at Municipal Stadium today. But alas, a pitcher showed up in an Baltimore uniform and disrupted my plans. The offense alo seems to show up for the O's and Chief Wahoo could only scratch his head. Scott McGregor would take the mound for the Orioles and Don Schulze for the Indians.

In the 2nd Young would get the Orioles on the scoreboard as he hit a 3-2 fastball off Schulze for a solo homer and it is 1-0. In the 4th the Orioles add add another as Ripken would get a leadoff walk and 2-outs later a Young single would send him to 3rd. Ripken would score on a Sheets single to make it 2-0.

in the 5th the Orioles would add 2 more to make it 4-0. Gross would single with 1 out, he would advance to 3rd as Ripken would follow him with a double. Rayford bounces into a 3-1 FC and Gross would score. With 2-outs Lynn would single and Ripken would come around to score.

THe indians would get their lone run in the 7th. Castillo would leadoff with a double to left and Bando would follow that up with a single to make it 4-1.

The Orioles would tack on 2 more in the 9th, with 2-outs Gross singles and the Ripken hits a routine flyball that the usually sure handed Butler drops and it turns into a 2BE and Gross holds at 3rd. Rayford follws that with a double that scores Gross and Ripken.

Rayford 2-5 2B and 3 RBI
Ripken 3 runs scored
Franco 3-4 in the losing effort

The Final Score 6-1 Orioles
