April 17, 1985 Game 90: Phillies (5-2) at Cubs (3-4)

The Phillies were looking to be the top team in the National League as the take on the Cubs at Wrigley today.  The would send Shane Rawley who threw 8.2 innings of perfect ball in his last start.  The Cubs would counter with Scott Sanderson.

In the 1st the Cubs would strike first with a lone run.  Dernier would single and steal 2nd.  Sandberg follows with a single and Dernier would score.   The Philles would tie the game in the 4th when Hayes hits a 1 out triple and Corcoran would hit a SACFLY to Matthews and Hayes would score. They Cubs would take the lead in the bottom of the 4th as Davis hits a 1-0 curveball for a solo homer with 2 outs.

In the 5th Matthews would draw a 2 out walk, Lopes singles and Matthews holds at 2nd. Moreland would walk to load the bases.  CEy would come up and single and Matthews scores to make it 3-1.

Lee Smith would strikeout 3 of the 4 batters he faced in the 9th to earn his 1st save.
