April 20, 1985 Game 122: Giants (6-3) at Reds (5-5)

The Giants are looking to increase their lead in the West as they take on a tough Reds team.  The Giants have taken the 1st two games of this 4 game series and the Reds are looking to get back on track at Riverfront Stadium.  The would send Mario Soto who has been lights out in his first 3 starts.  He would face Jim Gott who tossed a shutout in his only start this season.

The Reds faithful would get a real treat today as they would see one of the best pitched games by both teams that I have ever witnessed.

Gott and Soto put up zeros all night long matching each other inning by inning.  The Giants would come close to scoring in only 2 innings.  In the 7 the Giants would get their first hit as Davis leads off the inning with a single, Brown strikes-out Driessen draws a walk and with runners on 1st and 2nd Trevino bounces in a 6-4-3 double play.   They would also get close in the 9th as Wellman leads off with single, Leonard strikes-out, Davis bounces into a 5-4 FC and Brown walks putting runners at 1st and 2nd.  Soto gets Driessen to bounce one right back to the mound to end the threat.

The Giants almost had a couple runs in the 2nd as Venable leads off with a single, Esasky strikes-out, Concepcion doubles and Venable holds at 3rd,  Gott then gets Oester to popout to Uribe and Van Gorder strikes-out.

In the 9th the Reds get the lone run of the game Bell leads off with a double and would come around to score when Parker pits one the right-fielders head for a double.

Soto only give up 2 hits and strikes-out 12 and improves to 4-0.

The Final Score 1-0 Reds
