April 20, 1985 Game 126: Mets (4-5) at Phillies (5-4)

The Mets need to rebound after there aweful showing against the Pirates and it appears the Dwight Gooden is going to be the leader of this team  The Phillies are starting to play like everyone thought they would.  Today the Mets send Ed Lynch out to face John Denny.

The Mets get on the board 1st in the 2nd.  Carter leads off with a single, Heep gets a 1-out single and Carter holds at 2nd.  A 2BE on Stone allows Carter to score and Heep holds at 3rd.  Santana hits a SACFLY to Stone and Heep scores and it is 2-0 Mets.  The phillies get 1 back in the bottom half of the inning when Virgil takes a Lynch changeup and hits it over the centerfield fence for a solo homer and its now 2-1 Mets.

The Mets increase their lead in the 3rd.  Backman singles, Wilson doubles, Strawberry draws a 2-out walk to load the bases.  Heep singles and Backman comes around to score to make it 3-1.  The Phillies get one back in the 4th.  Stone singles and steals 2nd.  Hayes bounces in a 5-3 FC and Stone moves to 3rd.  Schmidt then hits a deep flyball to right and that scores Stone to make it 3-2.  In the *th the Mets add 2 more on a Strawberry 2 run homer.
