April 23, 1985 Game 165: Red Sox (7-5) at Yankees (7-3)

Opening game of a three game set and these two always take it very seriously.  The Yankees send Joe Cowley to the hill for his first start of the season and THe Red Sox send Oil Can Boyd to face him and he has pitched well so far.

The Red Sox strike first in the 3rd thanks to two Yankee errors.  Barrett gets to 2nd on a Henderson error, Boggs reaches 1st on a Randolph error, and Cowley walks Evans to load the bases.  Rice bounces into a 6-4 FC and Barrett scores to make it 1-0.

The Yankees take the lead in the 5th.  Baylor walks, Griffey doubles, Pagliarulo hits a bullett to Guiterrez kicks it away for an error and Baylor scores.  Wynegar doubles and Griffey scores.  Meachem hits a deep fly to left and Pagliarulo scores and its now 3-1 Yankees.

In the 8th the Red Sox get one back as Boggs takes a Cowley fastball and puts over the rightfield wall to make it 3-2 Red Sox. In the bottom half of the inning Baylor doubles, Griffey doubles and Baylor scores easily.  Pagliarulo walks, Henderson doubles and Griffey scores to make it 5-2.  Righetti closes out the 9th for his 3rd save.
