April 26, 1985 Game 197: Cardinals (10-5) vs Expos (7-8)

The Cardinals are starting to look like the team everyone had thought they would be,  they are playing great baseball.  The Expos have been inconsistent so far and things don't appear to be changing anytime soon.

In the 1st the Cardinals draw firstblood. Coleman singles and steals 2nd.  Cedeno singles, Coleman scores and two batters in and the Cardinals have a 1-0 lead.  They will add to their lead in the 2nd.  Nieto is safe at 1st on an error by Brooks.  Smith singles and Nieto advances to 3rd, Forsch bounces ibto a 5-4-3 double play and Nieto scores and its now 2-0 Cardinals.

The Expos make it 2-1 when Wallach homers off of Forsch.  In the 4th the Expos take the lead. Brooks triples, Law 1-out single and Brooks scores.  Butera singles, palmer singles to load the bases, Raines walks and Law scores and the Expos have a 3-2 lead.

The Cardinals tie it up in the 5th when Coleman triples.  He breaks for home on contact and Cedeno dribbles one back to Palmer and with Coleman's speed Palmer's only play is at 1st and its now 3-3.  In the 7th the Expos regain the lead.  Dawson doubles, Thompson singles and Dawson scores easily.  Brooks doubles and THompson holds at 3rd.  Wallach hits a deep SACFLY to Winningham and Thompson scores and the Expos have a 5-3 lead.

The Cardinals come flying back in the 8th.  Coleman doubles, Herr walks, Van Slyke singles and Coleman scores.  Pendleton follows with a singles and Herr scores to make it 5-5.  In the 9th the Cardinals take the lead.  Smith singles and steals 2nd, Horton bunts one down the first base line and smith advances to 3rd.  Coleman hits a SACFLY to Winningham and Smith scores giving the Cardinals a 6-5 lead.  LAhti gives uo a single in the 9th but the Expos can't push him home and the Cardinals earn the victory.
