April 27, 1985 Game 212: Pirates (8-7) at Mets (8-7)

It was a tad chilly at Shea today, but the bats would try and warm it up a bit.  The starters would not be the story.  The relievers were the stars.  McWilliams  starts for the Pirates and Lynch for the Mets.

In the 1st the Pirates get on the board with a 1-out 2 run homer by Ray and the Pirates lead 2-0.  The Mets strike back in the bottom of the 1st.  Chapman leads off with a walk, Knight gets on due to an error on Morrison, Hurdle singles and Chapman scores and Knight advances to 3rd. Strawberry bounces into a 64 FC scoring Knight, Christensen walks, Heep doubles scoring Strawberry,  Santana doubles scoring Christensen and Heep making the score 5-2 Mets.

The Pirates cut the lead to 1 in the 2nd when Brown hits a 2 run homer to make it 5-4.  In the 3rd the Pirates take the lead when Pena singles, Thompson is on due to a 2BE on Heep and Pena scores.  Kemp doubles and Thompson scores to make it 6-5 Pirates.

In the bottom of the 3rd the Mets tie it up, Strawberry hits one to Ray and he can't handle it and is charged with an error, Strawberry steals 2nd and would score on a Heep 1-out single to make it 6-6.  In the top of the 4th The Pirates take the lead. Mazzilli hits a pinch hit double, Orsulak singles scoring Mazzilli , chasing Lynch from the game and giving the Pirates a 7-6 lead.

The relievers took over from there and and give up no runs and scatter 4 hits for the rest of the game.
