April 28, 1985 Game 225: Pirates (9-7) at Mets (8-8)

Nice day at Shea Stadium today as the Mets take on the Pirates.  The Pirates are in second place behind the Cardinals and the Mets are right behind the Pirates.  The Mets look to Roger McDowell to get them into second and the Pirates are hoping that Lee Tunnell will give them a good outing.

The Pirates get one quickly as Orsulak leads off the game with a double,  Ray follows him with a single scoring Orsulak and the Pirates are up 1-0 after two batters.  The Mets get that run back in the 3rd. When Johnson hits a Tunnell fastball for a solo homerun and now the game is tied at 1.

In the 6th the Pirates take the lead again.  Reynolds singles and steals second,  Pena then singles to left ans an error on Foster allows Reynolds to score and Pena moves up to second and gives the Pirates a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the inning Strawberry singles and steals 2nd, Christensen hits a 1-out single scoring Strawberry and ties the game at 2.

In the 7th the Pirates threaten again with Pena on 2nd, Kemp singles to to center and Pena heads for home.  Strawberry comes up throwing and it looked liked Pena was going to score but Carter blocks the plate and handles the one hopper and makes the tag for the out.

In the 8th the Mets take the lead on a Strawberry solo homerun giving the Mets a 3-2 lead.  Orosco pitches the 9th for his 3rd save.
