April 28, 1985 Game 221: Padres (10-7) at Dodgers (9-10)

The Dodgers have looked good the last couple of games and the Padres have been up to the challenge in the early going.  Today would be a great game as these two would fight hard for every run.  The Dodgers send Fernando Valenzuela and he would not disappoint the fans today.  The Padres would counter with Mark Thurmond who has been quite a surprise this season.

The Padres get on the board in the 3rd, when Nettles took a Valenzuela curveball and went the other way with it and put it in the seats for a 3 run homer giving the Padres a 3-0 lead.  The Dodgers would start to chip away at the lead in the 6th.

In the 6th Guerrero doubles, Maldonado hits a 1-out single scoring Guerrero and its now 3-1 Padres.  In the 7th the Dodgers strike again.  Russell hits a 1-out single, Madlock singles, Guerrero walks to load the bases and then Marshall singles to score Russell to make it a 3-2 game.

It was a crazy one in the 9th.  Gossage comes in to shut the door and has not let in a run yet this season.  But he implodes against he Dodgers.  Madlock hits a 1-out single, Guerrero doubles, Marshall hits a SACFLY to Martinez scoring Madlock.  Maldonado then steps up with 2-outs and singles scoring Guerrero and gives the Dodgers a 4-3 win.

The Final Score 4-3 Dodgers
