May 3, 1985 Game 268: Padres (12-8) at Cubs (10-9)

Its is the 1st meeting for the season for these teams and the expectations have been high to start the season and they have gotten off to similar starts.  Jim Frey sends Dennis Eckersley out to face Andy Hawkins.

The Padres get their only run in the 2nd. Martinez singles and races to 3rd on Templeton's single to runners on the corners. Ramirez hits a deep fly to left and it would score Martinez and gives the Padres a 1-0 lead.  After that it was all Cubs.

In the 3rd the Cubs take the lead.  Cey is safe at 2nd on a Ramirez error.  Dernier singles scoring Cey and he goes to 2nd on Martinez's error.  Sandberg then singles scoring Dernier to make it 2-1 Cubs.  In the 5th Cey triples and would score on Dunston's SACFLY to left to make it 3-1.

In the 7th the Cubs add another Dunston would score on Eckersley's triple to make the score 4-1.  In the 8th the Cubs Moreland takes Lefferts deep for a 2 run homer and a Cubs 6-1 lead.  Eckersley would pitch the 9th without incident and the picks up his 4th win.
