May 5, 1985 Game 297: Orioles (7-15) at Twins (10-13)

The Twins are taking on the Orioles in the 3rd game of this 3 game set and so far they have split the series today the send John Butcher out to face Ken Dixon in hopes of taking the series.  The Orioles had other plans though.  Ken Dixon was tough on the Twins.  He would surrender only 4 hits, although he would issue 7 walks the Twins Twins could do nothing with them.  The Orioles bats were alive and kick as they would punish Butcher by pounding 12 hits in 6 innings.  This one wasn't even close.

In the 2nd Young hits a solo homer giving the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  In the 3 the Orioles would add to their lead.  Ripken doubles scoring Lacy and then Murray singles scoring ipken and the Orioles lead the Twins 3-0.  In the 4th with Young on 2nd Lacy singles scoring him and the Orioles push their lead to 4-0.  In the 5th the Orioles get back to bak homers from Lynn and Shelby and the Orioles are now leading 6-0.  The Twins appear to be done as they cannot get the offense going.

But the Twins do get a run in the bottom of the 5th when Puckett singles and looks like he is going to stretch it into a double and Young hurries his throw into 2nd and launches it to the backstop and Puckett advances all the way to 3rd.  Hrbek then hits a bullett right at Rayford who cant hanle it and it deflects off his glove and heads into leftfield allowing Puckett to score and it is now 6-1.  In the 8th with the bases loaded Washington rios a single scoring Brunansky and the Orioles lead is cut to 6-2. Don Aase comes in and pitches the final 1.1 innings to seal the victory for the Orioles.

The Final Score 6-2 Orioles
