May 5, 1985 Game 300: Dodgers (13-11) at Pirates (9-12)

The Dodgers are starting to look like the team that many consider the best team in the National League and the Pirates are starting to slowly fade to the second division.  Today the Pirates start Rick Rhoden who can't seem to get his season on track and the Dodgers send Orel Hershiser to the mound..


The Dodgers strike first in the 1st.  Marshall hits a bases loaded single scoring Duncan.  Brock bounces into a 4-3 FC and that would score Madlock and the Dodgers are up 2-0.  The Dodgers add to their lead in the 3rd.  With runners on 2nd and 3rd Brock singles scoring Madlock.  Marshall rounds 3rd and is thrown out at the plate by Wynne and the score is 3-0 Dodgers.  The Pirates make it a 1 run gam in the bottom of the 3rd, with runners on 1st and 2nd Orsulak singles scoring Khalifa.  Ray then bounces into a 6-4-3 double play and that allows Rhoden to score and it is 3-2 Dodgers

The Dodgers break the game open in the 4th.  There are runners on 1st and 2nd and Hershiser doubles scoring Scioscia, Sax singles scoring Landreaux and Hershiser.  Duncan singles and Sax is thrown out at 3rd by Orsulak.  Madlock singles and Duncan is is also going to test Orsulak's arm and is gunned down at 3rd and the Dodgers lead it 6-2.  In the bottom of the 4th the Pirates make it 6-4 on Pena's 2 run homer.

The Dodgers add a couple of insurance runs in the 6th.  With runners on the corners Guerrero hits into a 4-3 FC allowing Duncan to score.  Brock's little tapper to 3rd and Morrison throws it over Thompson's head for a 2BE allowing Madlock to score and it is now an 8-4 Dodgers lead.
