May 7, 1985 Game 318: Padres (14-10) at Cardinals (16-8)

A win for the Padres today and they would be in sole possession of 1st place in the West.  The Cardinals are looking to widen that gap between them and the 2nd place New York Mets.  Andy Hawkins would get the start for the Padres and John Tudor for the Cardinals.  This game would be another tight one and both starters were impressive.

In the 3rd with runners on 1st & 2nd Garvey doubles scoring Royster and the Padres have a 1-0 lead.  The Cardinals tie it up in the 6th.  They have runners on 1st & 3rd when Van Slyke hits a SACFLY to center scoring Tudor.  The Cardinals would take the lead in the 7th, with runners on 1st and 3rd Nieto hits one back to the mound and they go for the double-play and can't complete it allowing Clark to score and the Cardinals have a 2-1 lead.  Tudor finishes what he started and get the complete game win.

The Final Score 2-1 Cardinals
