May 8, 1985 Game 331: Cubs (13-11) at Giants (9-16)

It is a beautiful day at Candlestick Park as the Giants take on the Cubs.  The Giants want to gain a traction as their season is slowly slipping away from them.  The Cubs are looking to stay close to the 1st Cardinals.  Mike Krukow get the start for the Giants and Dennis Eckersley for the Cubs.  Giants fan would be in for a real treat as they almost witnessed history.

In the 2nd Bosley hits a 1-out triple off of Krukow, Davis follows with a SACFLY to left and Bosley scores to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead.  The Cubs add to their lead in the 5th when Dunston hits a 2-out 2 run homer to put the Cubs up 3-0.  Sandberg makes it 4-0 on a solo shot in the 6th.

Meanwhile Eckersley has a no-hitter going until Chili Davis singles with 1-out in the 7th.  Eckerlsey will eventually lose the shutout in the 9th due to a couple of defensive miscues.  Leonard is on 1st after a Dernier error, Davis walks, Driessen hits a slow roller to short and Dunston throws it away allowing Leonard to score and making it a 4-1 game.  Eckersley ends up with a one hitter.
