May 10, 1985 Game 343: Phillies (11-14) at Mets (15-9)

It was a packed house at Shea Stadium today as the Mets take on the Phillies.  Sid Fernandez get the start for the 2nd place Mets and the struggling Charlie Hudson gets the start for the Phillies.

The Mets get on the board in the 1st due to Heep's 1-out 2 run homer and at the end of the 1st it is 2-0 Mets.  The Mets break this game wide open in the 3rd when they take on 7-0 lead.  They have runners on 1st and 2nd when Carter doubles scoring BAckman.  Foster singles with the bases loaded scoring Heep.  Knight singles with the bases loaded scoring Carter and Strawberry.  Santana then hits a SACFLY to left to score Foster to round out the scoring.

The Phillies get a lone run in the 4th on Aguayo 2-out single that scores Schmidt to make it a 7-1 game.  But the Mets are not done.  In the 6th they would add to their lead when they have runners on 1st and 2nd Backman singles scoring Santana.  Carter hits a 2-out single scoring Fernandez, then Strawberry singles scoring Backman  making it a 10-1 Mets lead.  Fernandez pitches the 9th to earn the complete game.
