May 13, 1985 Game 376: Mets (17-10) at Braves (11-17)

I was excited for this one!  Then the excitement faded and became total despair.  The Braves hosted the Mets at Fulton County Stadium and it was a hit parade.  There was a total of 21 runs scored and 36 hits and there was also 5 errors.  If it could go wrong, it did.  The starters for this would be Zane Smith for the Braves and Ed Lynch for the Mets.

It all started in the 1st.  The Mets jump out to a 4-0 lead.  The Mets have runners on 1st and 3rd and Carter triples scoring both runners.  Foster doubles scoring Carter and then Johnson triples scoring Foster.  The Braves get one back in the bottom of the inning when with runners on the corners Horner singles scoring Harper to make it 4-1 Mets.

In the 4th Mets add to their lead.  Runners on 1st and 2nd Hernandez singles scoring Backman.  Carter singles and Wilson scores.  Foster then draws a walk to load the bases and strawberry bounces into a 1-3 FC scoring Hernandez.  Santana then hits a SACFLY to right and it is now a 8-1 Mets lead.  The Mets add 2 more in the 6th when Carter and Foster hit back to back homers and it is now a 10-1 lead.

In the 8th the Mets a couple more, they have runners on 2nd and 3rd and Santana singles scoring both and it is now 12-1 Mets.  But the Braves are not quit done.  Lynch leaves the game and Doug Sisk comes in and the Braves mount their comeback.  Washington hits a pinch hit home run.  Murphy comes up with the bases loaded and hits a rocket to short and Santana cannot handle it cleanly and Harper scores.  Horner then belts a grand slam to make it a 12-9 game and Orosco shuts the door in the 9th to seal the victory.

The Final Score 12-9 Mets
