May 13, 1985 Game 375: Royals (14-14) at Orioles (10-18)

The Orioles took on the Royals today at Memorial Stadium and they played like they have all season. Terrible.  They sent Mike Boddicker to the mound and he has the highest ERA among pitchers that have thrown at least 30 innings and today he would be just as bad.  The Royals start Bud Black and he has been a solid starter.  The Royals hope that a win today will get them above .500 for the first time since April 8th.

The Orioles get the scoring started in the 1st.  Shelby is on 1st and Murray hits a double and Shelby scores and it is a 1-0 Orioles lead.  But Boddicker cannot hold the lead when in the 2nd Balboni hits a 2 run homer to give the Royals a 2-1 lead.  The Royals add to their lead in the 3rd.  Brett and McRae both deliver 2-out singles and then Balboni doubles scoring Brett and that makes it a 3-1 game.

The Royals Break this open in the 4th.  Wathan and Concepcion single and Wilson delivers a triples scoring both.  Then Sheridan doubles scoring Wilson and it is now 6-1 Royals.  The Orioles get one back in the bottom of the inning.  They have runners at the corners and Shelby singles scoring Lacy and it is now 6-2.

The Royals are not done though.  In the 5th with runner on 2nd and 3rd Wathan hits a sharp grounder behind the bag at 3rd and Rayford goes to first and that allows Balboni to score.  Concepcion then singles scoring White and it is now 8-2 and that is all for Boddicker.  The Orioles make a bid for a comeback in the 6th that chases Black from the game.  THey have runners at 1st and 2nd when Wiggins singles scoring Lacy.  Ripken walks to load the bases and Murray takes a Black fastball and crushes it off the left field wall scoring Dempsey and Wiggins and makes it a 8-5 game.

The Royals add some insurance in the 8th.  Concepcion doubles and Wilson triples scoring the runners and then Sheridan hits a grounder to Ripken who throws to 1st and Wilson scores to make it a 10-5 game.  The Royals get a 1-2-3 9th and get the win

The Final Score 10-5 Royals
