May 17, 1985 Game 426: Reds (19-14) at Pirates (13-18)

Dave Parker was 2-4 today with a HR (5) and 3 RBI.  His HR in the 7th was the game winner as the Pirates tried to mount a comeback in the 9th.  Their comeback was stopped when Sam Khalifa was thrown out at the plat by Eric Davis on a Junior Ortiz single.  Davis entered the game in the 9th as a pinch hitter for Mario Soto and Stayed in the game as defensive replacement for Nick Esasky.


Mario Soto (7-2) is the winner and he is the first 7 game winner in the majors.  He gave up 1 run on 2 hits and struck out 6 in 8 innings pitched. Jose DeLeon (3-5) was the loser.  He have up 5 runs on 5 hits and walked 8.  But he gave up homers to Parker and Esasky and that was what did him in.
