Ray Knight slammed 2 homeruns as the New York Mets outscored the San Diego Padres 2 to 1. 

Ron Darling(5-4) earned his pay with a solid performance for New York. He surrendered 8 hits and 1 walk in 6 and 2/3 innings. Darling struckout 8 San Diego batters. San Diego threatened in the 9th but New York was able to put down the rally. 

Jesse Orosco recorded the save, his 8th. Dave Dravecky(6-3) was hit with the loss. He gave up 7 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings. 

'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Darling said.
