June 8, 1985: Padres (33-21) at Reds (25-28)

Steve Garvey hit a homerun as the San Diego Padres bested the Cincinnati Reds 3 to 1 at RIVERFRONT STADIUM. 

San Diego had the game winning rally in the top of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 3 base hits. Bruce Bochy kicked off the action when he hit a bases-empty home run. Carmelo Martinez was next and he drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Garry Templeton then laced a single. Jerry Royster was up next and he delivered a single to load the bases. Tim Flannery stepped into the box and hit a deep fly. San Diego and Cincinnati each finished the night with 8 hits. 

Roy Lee Jackson(1-0) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Jackson was helped out by Goose Gossage who recorded his 12th save. John Stuper(4-5) was the losing pitcher. He gave up 3 runs and 7 hits in 8 and 1/3 innings.
