June 12, 1985: Padres (35-23) at Astros (25-32)

Center fielder Kevin Bass hit a homerun and had 2 RBI and Nolan Ryan reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts as the Houston Astros defeated the San Diego Padres by a score of 5 to 2 at The Astrodome.

Ryan(7-6) was in control of the game from the outset. He allowed only 7 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings. San Diego threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

Lamarr Hoyt(5-6) ended up with the loss. Bob Lillis was asked about the performance of Ryan, 'He had his good stuff out there tonight. The fans really get into it when the strikeouts start mounting up - and that seems to give him even more adrenaline.'
