June 23, 1985: Cubs (39-27) at Cardinals (39-28)

In a lop-sided win the Chicago Cubs ripped the St. Louis Cardinals by a 8 to 3 count. 

Ryne Sandberg had a big day with his bat. He tripled in the 1st inning, clubbed a two-run home run in the 3rd inning and stroked a single in the 9th inning. Chicago had 14 hits for the game and St. Louis had 8. 

The victory went to Dennis Eckersley(9-4) who went 7 innings, allowing 3 runs. Eckersley got help from Lee Smith who earned his 20th save. Danny Cox(4-4) was the losing pitcher.
