June 29, 2016: Reds (37-36) at Padres (47-28)

Kevin McReynolds lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 3 RBI at JACK MURPHY STADIUM where the San Diego Padres beat the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 5 to 4.

Cincinnati was unable to climb back into it after San Diego went ahead for good in the bottom of the 7th inning with 2 runs on 3 base hits. Carmelo Martinez kicked off the action when he drew a walk. McReynolds stepped into the batter's box and he stroked a base-hit. Bruce Bochy then lined a one-base hit to load the bases. Garry Templeton came up and he doubled bringing in two baserunners. Cincinnati made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

Craig Lefferts(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 2 and 2/3 innings. Lefferts got relief help from Goose Gossage who gained credit for his 19th save. John Stuper(6-6) was tagged with the loss.

Dick Williams was in a talkative mood in the clubhouse, "Great game! If only we could win all of the close ones - wouldn't that be nice! Since that's not going to happen, I think I'll savor this one for a little while."
