June 30, 1985: Astros (37-37) at Giants (30-44): Game 1 of 2

Center fielder Kevin Bass went deep and had 2 RBI and Bob Knepper pitched 8 strong innings at CANDLESTICK PARK as the Houston Astros beat the San Francisco Giants 5 to 3. 

Houston erupted with the game winning runs in the top of the 8th inning plating 2 runs utilizing 3 base hits. Bass got things going when he drew a walk. Jose Cruz came next and he clubbed a two-run home run. San Francisco threatened in the 9th but Houston was able to put down the rally. 

The victory went to Knepper(10-6) who went 8 innings, allowing 3 runs. Knepper got help from Dave Smith who earned his 16th save. Dave Lapoint(4-9) took the loss. 

With the win, Houston continued their winning ways; their streak now stands at 6 games and counting.
