Templeton really "lit it up" for San Diego. He blasted a solo shot in the 3rd inning, hit a bases-empty home run in the 5th inning and popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 7th inning. Cincinnati had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
The win went to Lamarr Hoyt(9-6) who allowed 3 runs in 8 innings. Hoyt was helped out by Goose Gossage who recorded his 20th save. Mario Soto(10-7) took the loss. He served up 4 gopher balls in 6 innings.
"I had good swings today," Templeton said, "Everything felt right".
