July 6, 1985: Mets (54-25) at Braves (22-56)

Gary Carter slammed a homerun and had 2 RBI and Dwight Gooden racked up an impressive total of 10 strikeouts as the seemingly unstoppable New York Mets beat the ice-cold Atlanta Braves by a score of 9 to 1.

Gooden(13-1) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 7 hits and 5 walks in 9 innings. New York dominated offensively as they scored in 6 different innings.

Steve Bedrosian(2-13) was hit with the loss. He served up 4 homeruns in his 4 and 1/3 innings. Gooden, when asked about his 10 strikeout performance noted, 'The important thing is that we won, if I get 20 and we lose, what good does it do our team? But, on the other hand, since we won it feels great!'
